Thank you for your interest in our Hanson Hill Doodle Dogs Guardian Program. We believe the dogs in our breeding program should live the life of a beloved family companion instead of being kept long-term in kennels.  Dogs need to be part of a family “pack” for optimal health, happiness, and well-being.  While we would love to be able to keep all of our breeding dogs here with us at our home, we also want to have some time to spend with our family, and we want to make sure that each of our breeding dogs is getting the love and attention it needs and deserves. That’s where YOU come in!

So, our guardian families play a very important role in the future of our program.  And you have the opportunity to receive a wonderful Hanson Hill Doodle Dog puppy, the “pick of the litter,” for free!  We look for very specific qualities when holding a puppy back for breeding purposes.  Our breeding dogs are chosen for their outstanding temperaments, health, and beauty. While we are continuing to improve and perfect the breeding of our Hanson Hill Doodle Dog puppies, your commitment to meeting the needs of your new puppy and the needs of our program helps ensure that their excellent traits are passed along to future generations, bringing great joy to many families. Once a puppy has passed all of its pre-breeding health tests and is about two years old, we begin to breed the dog. Here’s how all that goes:

THE BREEDING PLAN

You will be responsible for everyday pet care costs, but in lieu of the adoption fee, we retain sole rights to breeding the dog. Prior to breeding any of our puppies in guardian homes, they must first pass pre-breeding health testing. If a puppy does not pass its health testing, it will not be bred, and the puppy will be your puppy forever. 

We cover all costs related to breeding, and we whelp and raise the puppies in our home.  If you have a female you will need to bring her to our home for a few days so we can breed her when she is in heat, starting at around the age of two years. Or you might need to bring her to our vet’s office if we do artificial insemination.  Then she will return to you for approximately 60 days.  A few days before her due date, you will need to bring her to our home where we will help her whelp her litter.  She will remain with us to nurse the puppies until they are weaned around seven weeks old, then you can bring her back home to you. 

Most females come into heat once every six months or about two times each year, with the first heat typically occurring around five to seven months old.  Each heat cycle lasts two to three weeks and we will tell you what to expect during this time. When your female is in heat you need to keep her safe from straying males. She will be bred for the first time sometime around the age of two years, and approximately every six months after that depending on her cycle. We retain the right to breed her up to five times over the span of about three years.  When she has finished her breeding career, we will arrange and pay for her to be spayed and she will continue to enjoy being your pet forever.  

If you have a male, the time he is away from your home is more limited.  Typically you will bring him to our home where he will stay for a few days to honeymoon with a female.  Then he will return to you. Or you might need to bring him to our vet’s office if we do artificial insemination.  Male dogs can breed as early as around eight months old.  He might be used for breeding a couple times or several times each year, depending on the needs of my program.  During this time, your boy will need to be kept safe from escaping to find a girlfriend if one is available to him in the area.

When he has completed his breeding career, typically around seven to eight years old, we will arrange and pay for him to be neutered and he will continue to enjoy being your pet forever.  

HOW TO QUALIFY

• If you guardian a female dog, you must live within two hours of Tenino, Washington.
• If you guardian a male dog, you must live within 45 minutes of Tenino, Washington.
• Your puppy must not be home alone for extended periods of time during the day. We prefer guardian families in which someone works from home, has the ability to take their dog to work, or is retired. Well-adjusted dogs do not spend a lot of time alone–they need people just like we do! 
• Provide a loving and safe environment, including a fenced play area.
• Agree to feed a high-quality dog food approved by us. Feed your dog the supplements we recommend.
• Provide basic obedience training within a group class, online training program, or individual trainer. Basic training includes leash and crate training, as well as housebreaking. One option is Baxter & Bella, an excellent online puppy training program. We offer a 25% discount for Baxter & Bella.
• Be responsible for the puppy’s basic health care and follow our guidelines for the vaccine schedule. 
• Carry basic Pet Medical Insurance. We recommend Trupanion, and can offer you the first month free of charge through our link.

• Provide appropriate exercise and lots of love, attention, and cuddles!
