All About Doodle Coats
Doodle Dogs are famous and sought-after for their coats. Their wonderful curls are irresistibly beautiful, and the low- to non-shedding quality is highly desired by people who would love a doggy without all the hair on floors and furniture. Please be aware that while it is highly likely that all of our Hanson Hill Doodle Dog will have low- to non-shedding coats, this can never be guaranteed. NO reputable breeder can or will guarantee a puppy to be non-shedding.
SPECIFICS ABOUT DOODLE COATS
Furnishings: All of our breeding dogs are genetically tested for furnishings–longer hair on the muzzle, ears, and face. Furnishings enable a doodle to have that lovable “teddy bear” face (when groomed correctly). Just look at these cute fluffy-headed pups! (PHOTOS FROM “Doodle FURNISHINGS” album).
Curl Quality: Doodles can have straight, wavy, or curly coats.
Coat Texture: Additionally, there are two kinds of textures found in doodle coats– fleece and wool. After years of breeding, we have found that most Hanson Hill Doodle Dogs will have fleece-type coats that are soft, much like an Angora goat. Fleece coats can be straight, wavy, or spiral curly. Wool-type coats are still soft, but with a slightly coarser texture that is more like lambswool.
Colors: Here at Hanson Hill we have been selectively breeding for puppies with at least two colors. With the birth of each litter, we are always excited to see what tippings and markings our puppies have. If you have browsed through our photo gallery, you’ve seen that in our Goldendoodle puppies, we have from light, dusty blonde to dark strawberry red, typically all with white markings. In our Irish Doodles, coat colors range from dark golden to red, with white markings. And in our Springerdoodles, we have both black & white AND liver & white puppies, some with additional golden-brown color markings. If you are dreaming of a certain color of doodle puppy, chances are we’re going to be offering it soon!
Doodle Sizes
There are three sizes of Doodle Dogs. Measurements are from the highest point of the top of the shoulder to the ground. More often, however, sizes are expressed in pounds than in inches.
- Miniature: 14 – 16 inches, 15 – 35 pounds
- Medium: 17 – 20 inches, 35 – 50 pounds
- Standard: 21 – 24 inches, over 50 pounds
**Important: We do our very best to estimate the adult size of every one of our puppies. However, a breeder can never guarantee the adult size of the dog. Our best-guess estimate is an average weight between the weight of the parent dogs. Most of the time, we are correct in our “guestimates,” but sometimes a pup draws some genetics from previous generations and is either smaller or larger than our best estimates.
